Part 9, Jai Alai at the MGM Grand Hotel."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/?category_name=matchbook-delight\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"G8\" title=\"matchbookdelight\" src=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/matchbookdelight.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The date of this matchbook can be narrowed down to between the years 1974, when they began playing Jai Alai at the <em>fronton<\/em> in the new MGM Grand Hotel, and 1980, when a disastrous fire broke out in the unsprinklered hotel, killing 85 and putting an end to the \u201cfastest game in town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"G8\" title=\"AB1006-037-MB-A\" src=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/AB1006-037-MB-A.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It has some nice letterforms and a pleasing illustration of a Jai Alai competitor \u2013 the technique of shading (two colors only, plus halftone), combined with outlining the shading, gives the illustration a groovy, flowing, liquid look.
