It appears that \u201cChamois\u201d was a trademark for matches that they distributed. This was among the only foreign matchbooks in the collection I inherited, so evidently the collector was not a frequent traveler, but I hope that he did make it to France at least the one time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"G8\" title=\"AB1006-024-MB-A\" src=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/AB1006-024-MB-A.jpg\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The design is really pleasing \u2013 the gritty, analog quality of the three-color printing and cheap card stock gives it a rustic look. The letter \u201cA\u201d has been stylized into a mountain on which a chamois is perched. As you may know, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/chamois\">chamois<\/a> is \u201ca small goatlike bovid (<em>Rupicapra rupicapra<\/em>) of mountainous regions from southern Europe to the Caucasus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"G8\" title=\"AB1006-024-MB-B\" src=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/AB1006-024-MB-B.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am not sure if the stalagmity border is supposed to resemble something in particular, but it gives the sense that the SEITA logogram is illuminated within a clearing, as if in the woods.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"G8\" title=\"AB1006-024-MB-C\" src=\"http:\/\/lomo.architectureburger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/AB1006-024-MB-C.jpg\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The matchsticks themselves are of wood.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to Wikipedia, I have learned that SEITA was the Service d&#8217;Exploitation Industrielle des Tabacs et Allumettes \u2013 the French national tobacco monopoly.
